The People of RYI

-Daniil Karpinskii, BA student from Russian Federation

One of the most unique aspects of RYI is the space it creates for its students. We come from all kinds of backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences, yet here we find a safe environment not only to learn, but also to express ourselves, share our thoughts, and create meaningful connections with others.

The university is deeply immersed in its monastic surroundings, and this shapes our daily experience in subtle yet profound ways. No matter what brings a student here. Whether it is a purely academic interest, a philosophical question, or a desire to learn ancient languages – the atmosphere inevitably leaves its mark. During classes, the sound of monks chanting often drifts through the open windows. These prayers weave gently into the background of our studies, wrapping the restless mind in a soft blanket of Tibetan melodies and bringing it back to the present moment. In those brief pauses, one is reminded of the joy and simplicity that can be found in attentive learning.

Yet what makes this place truly special is not only its setting, but the people who have chosen to build this community. Our professors have taken remarkable leaps of faith, leaving behind the familiarity and comfort of their homes to make this place their own. Through their dedication, they have helped create a home for all of us.

From early morning until late at night, they are present – ready to listen, support, guide, and encourage. Their commitment extends far beyond the classroom, and it is through their generosity, patience, and care that RYI becomes much more than a university. It becomes a community.
